This is a reproduction of " Welcoming a Guest with Wine" of the mid fifth century BCE by the Euaion Painter. This Athenian artisan worked from about 460 to 440 BCE decorating vases in the red-figure technique. The Euaion Painter was a student of the great vase-painter Douris and continued the workshop into the next generation. The Euaion Painter was one of the principal cup producers of his time, but he also decorated other small vessels. In his favored scenes of athletes and revelers, he drew tall, thin, small-headed figures arranged on the vase with little overlapping.
As with most ancient artists, the real name of the Euaion Painter is unknown. He is identified only by the stylistic traits of his work. Scholars named him after a kalos inscription on a cup in the MuseƩ du Louvre praising the beauty of the youth Euaion.
