This is a reproduction of “Male Model” by Jules Gustave Besson of 1893. The painting is a fine example of Academic paintings of male nudes. The French artist was thirty-one years old when he completed this masterpiece having been born in Paris. He was a student of Cabanel, Delaunay and Gustave Moreau at the Beaux Arts, but did not follow in their styles. During the early twentieth century he moved to Indochina where he won the Prix de l’Indochine in 1925. He became director of the Ecode d’Arts Appliques at Gia Dinh. A reproduction painting of this masterpiece is available. It is an oil on canvas that measures 16 by 20 inches.
